Apply to the 2021 Science Writing Internship

We are please to offer our free Science Writing Internship program for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in science, technology, engineering, math (STEM), and adjacent, disciplines.

The internship program is facilitated by Brittney G. Borowiec, postdoctoral fellow, freelance science writer, and Editor at Massive Science; and Allison E. McDonald, Associate Professor and blogger.

​

Interns will be expected to attend regular interactive workshops (some of which may require pre-workshop "homework"), discussions, and panels (3-4 hours per week), and contribute several posts to the website blog. They'll also be expected to help with consolidate resources for posting on the blog website (e.g. by taking notes or producing written summaries of the events. The entire program is virtual and conducted over Zoom, email, and other online modalities. The internship program is unpaid.

Program schedule (all workshops 12 to 2 pm EST, unless noted)

June 5 - Science communication 101

June 10 - Science blogging 

June 17 - EDI in scicomm panel (12 to 3 pm)

June 24 - Misinformation

June 30 - Science journalism and pitching 

July 8 - Careers panel (12 to 3 pm)

There will also be optional, regular officer hours with the program facilitators for further discussion, feedback on blog posts, etc.
